Snip and email text from the web

Ever encounter a text from the web that you want to share with others? However, typing them on your messaging app or email client can be a pain. You can copy and paste it, but some web pages do not allow such action. SnipIT is a  app that you can use to cut and paste text from anywhere on the internet. It is a web browser add-on that allows you to snip texts as you browse and send them in an email seamlessly.

Easy setup

The first thing that users must know is that SnipIT has no interface. With this, you cannot find it on your start menu after installation. Instead, it will go onto your web browser as an extra option when you highlight a text and right-click. Another thing to note is that the app is only an extension to Internet Explorer. You cannot find the extra option on other web browsers.

SnipIT is a lightweight app that requires low CPU usage. Moreover, it does not affect any other extensions installed on your browser.  Since it is only an add-on, this will also not affect your browser, so you can surf without any lag or slow loading speeds unless you have problems with your internet connection.

However, while the app is simple to set up, users must know that it is limited to personal computers. Also, it only works with Microsoft Windows and the older versions of the OS.  Users of new operating systems can try other similar apps, like Greenshot, which is free to use and comes packed with features. Users also need to know that the app collects cookies from the websites you copy from and your email. However, they do not sell them to third parties.

Simple function

Using the app is easy. Since it does not have an interface, you can proceed to your browser and search. If you find a part that you want to copy, you only need to highlight it and right-click. You can then choose the SnipIt option from the drop-down menu. Select to snip the text and take you to your email client.

If you haven't signed in to your email account, the app will ask you to choose a service provider. You will then need to provide your username and password. SnipIT creates a new email for you and pastes your selected text onto the email. Of course, you will need to add the recipient and a subject line before sending it.

The software supports Gmail, Microsoft Outlook, Hotmail, and Yahoo Mail. It also has MailTo pre-installed to make the process of sending the copied text seamless. However, it does not support any other email addresses, which can be a bummer if you do not use these email services.

Another thing that users should know is that the app only works for texts. It cannot copy images and other media files. Additionally, the desktop version cannot change the texts' appearance when you paste it into your email. There is also no option to change the text size. If you are looking for a more comprehensive tool, you can try Droplr.

Not worth downloading

All in all, SnipIT is an app that works as advertised. It allows anyone to cut text from any web page and send them via email. However, while it is helpful, the app comes with limitations that downloading it appears unnecessary. It only has one function that only works for texts. There are other options available that offer various tools for free. Even the built-in Snipping Tool is better than this app.

SnipIT is an Internet Explorer add-in that can be used to e-mail the selected text in the browser's window using your e-mail client of choice. The add-on currently supports Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, Gmail and default installed MailTo client in Internet Explorer as e-mail client options.

SnipIT is very easy to use: just select any text fragment on the webpage you're viewing and right click on it. You'll see new options in your context menu to send that selected fragment using your e-mail desktop client or webmail service. The text is automatically copied onto the message body plus a link to the source webpage.
